Good morning. The shop is open and the home repair/improvement advisory crew will be on hand, those not out knocking on doors, making calls or getting to DC somehow for today's rally.
While SMHRB is generally a politics-free zone, I will venture to make my own still-clinging-to-hope prediction that the TbagTsunami won't quite wash away our majority in the House and the sun will rise on Wednesday morning.
Kindly refrain from troubling me with facts or arguments; let's talk about something else.
So we had a wind storm with gusts over 70 mph, the day before big weather events further east. Might have been the biggest blow I've seen out here and I fully expected a tree to come down, but somehow we escaped damage.
The new portal (porch) did not blow down, although it was sheltered by the house and I'll have to wait for a rare east wind to provide the final test. Other projects during this productive week include moving the gas line over a foot to give better access to the re-configured portal, moving 2 cords of dry firewood in under the new roof, next to the entry door, building a framework for the half "hoop house" greenhouse I am building onto the south side of the shop, bringing in and stacking a big load of firewood for next year and a bunch of general cleaning and tidying up before whatever snow we may get in this la Nina winter gets here.
Had our first frost this week, and our first fire in the woodstove that keeps us warm.
My out-of-the-country homebuilding clients are in town for the next week or two to figure out where we go on their project, which probably means them shelling out an unexpected $20k more for a new well. It is either that, or walk away from the $100k they have already invested in land and infrastructure.
I am beginning to get my personal mojo back, moving on with my life, and it all feels possible again.
Thanks for dropping by. Tell us what you've been working on, and maybe we'll be of some help.
