There is a diary here that discusses the way Alaska is approaching their write in candidate. I was shocked to see how many people were supporting disenfranchising votes, as it may help Lisa Murkowski.
This really saddens me. It harkens back to a day, when election officials would set up arbitrary barriers for voters. It is like saying that if someone can't spell, they don't deserve a vote. In other words a literacy test.
Other states have tried to say, if you don't have a driver's license, you aren't eligible to vote. Please never allow yourself to become a Democrat at the expense of being democratic.
If you are a United States citizen over 18 years of age, you are guaranteed the right exercise your franchise. The only exception is for felons, but in most cases they can get that right returned.
This right has not come easily to many Americans. It was not handled equally at the founding of our country, and remained this way for nearly 200 years of our history. Many people have risked their lives to insure this right would never again be removed.
Lawyers have their place in society. The voting booth isn't one of them. That place belongs to us.
