I always thought it was sort of annoying when political campaigners would come to my door growing up (now that I live in an apartment in the most Democratic district in the country, this rarely happens anymore). It just seemed sort of rude and invasive. But what if there's a way to get the people to come to you? Well, you're lucky that today is just such a day: Halloween!
It's strange that I've never thought about this before, but today is a day when there will no doubt be a lot of people stopping by your house, knocking on your door, and begging for a handout. Being a polite neighbor, you'll probably likely give up that handout with a smile (it's a shame people don't think of taxes this way). Considering the amount of work that goes into campaigns knocking on doors and making telephone calls, isn't a little easier when the people are coming to you?
While it is true many of the folks arriving on your doorstop may not be of voting age, they often bring along their parents, and wouldn't two days before an election be a perfect time to bring up politics? Perhaps a nice, "You're welcome" to the child and a "Vote Democratic on Tuesday" to the parents. Heck, even if they don't agree with you, it seems unlikely that they would punch you in the face for your views in front of your child. Plus, they are the ones on your property anyway. If they don't like it, they should just go trick or treat somewhere else. :)
Just thought I'd share this GOTV idea on this spooky holiday. Happy Halloween everyone!
