How can the Republican party portend to be the religious party, the moral majority, when most of them are so filled with hate?
It seems to me that a majority of Americans belong to the "party" of tolerance, inclusiveness and compassion; the Democratic party; yes, it is a two-party system still, unfortunately. It also seems to me that those beliefs are illustrated in the Bible. Nowhere does it speak against homosexuality, equal rights; and it definately depicts caring for the "least of our brothers". If the religious fringe of the Tea-Publican party had their way, we'd be living back when slavery was legal, women and blacks had no vote or rights, before the government helped the least of our brothers when they're down, and puritanical ways were the norm. They need to open their eyes and embrace the fact that America is made up of mostly progressive-minded people who don't want to go backward. Why would anyone want to? If we'd never progressed...we'd still be writing on cave walls instead of texting on iphones. We wouldn't be able to cure diseases or Skype online.
The Tea-Publican party also espouses smaller government; however they want government to tell people who they can or cannot sleep with, whether to carry their rapist's or father's baby to term, Christine O'Donnell would like to put a stop to masturbation. They want to end food stamps and other programs that help people rise up from the gutter; without these programs we'd have more homeless and sick children that end up going to the emergency room, which costs tax-payers even more money. I suppose they'd prefer turning away the sick children, the least of our brothers...but what would Jesus do? I'm not a very religious person, but the fringe of the Republican party espouse to be very religious; and from the gist of good book, I've always thought the running theme was love, compassion, empathy and treating one another as you would like to be treated.
Think about it:
What would Jesus do if his neighbor were gay, poor or black? Would he beat him, spit on him, or take away all his rights as an American? Or would he simply treat him as he would expect to be treated?
