Many of us are discouraged, depressed, and disillusioned. We are mad as hell and we aren't going to take it anymore. By not voting. By not volunteering for GOTV efforts. By not contributing, even to our preferred candidates. I have a remedy for you...
Go see Kos at a book signing for his new book, American Taliban.
I got an email from the DailyKos mailing list today that said Markos would be in Seattle for a book signing. I called my husband and said I wanted to go if he was up for it. So we went.
We got to the bookstore a little early. We hadn't been in a bookstore for months, so it was fun to browse. We bought American Taliban, and Earth: The Book by Jon Stewart and the Daily Show gang, and a Scott Turow novel. Fun! I have been so used to buying everything from Amazon.com that I had almost forgotten how much I love bookstores.
Markos showed up a little before the start time with front-pager McJoan. Along with the other folks waiting, we chatted a little, and Markos signed a few books. And then he got up to talk.
Markos talked about the book, why he wrote it, what's in it, and how bizarre it is that the liberals have criticized him for being mean to conservatives by calling them Taliban. He was funny and eloquent and enthusiastic, just as anyone might expect. He poked fun at the Tea Party candidates (which is so easy to do). But mostly, the effect in my opinion is that he reminded us why we are trying to elect more and better Democrats.
After the talk, Kos took some questions. I didn't really have anything to ask, and I thought most of the questions were things that had already been answered on the front page, but it was still fun to hear Markos' responses.
OK, we could have bought American Taliban for a little less online, but with shipping charges, it wouldn't have been much different. And this way, we were able to contribute to the local economy. And now I'm really looking forward to reading the book. Given that I wasn't even sure I was going to buy a copy in the first place, that says something.
