With each passing day, it becomes even more remarkable that the Republican Party chose to nominate a lunatic like Christine O'Donnell instead of somebody reasonable like Mike Castle. The latest:
Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell (R) yesterday told Delaware voters a big fib that she worked for a "nonprofit" when doing marketing for Mel Gibson's "Passion of the Christ," real-world experience that she said claims her best suited to represent the state in office.
"What I do is nonprofit work, I take on clients," O'Donnell said when asked about critiques she is unqualified in video you can watch below. "I have a very extensive client history from working with Icon Productions at the 'Passion of the Christ.'"
Yes, the same Icon Productions that shattered box office records with "Passion of the Christ" in 2004. It's not listed in the nonprofit disclosure databases, and Icon's own description doesn't include any mention of being a nonprofit.
The amazing thing here isn't just that she lied about the Passion production company being a non-profit -- it's the GOP nominated a PR flack for such a radical and divisive movie to be their candidate for U.S. Senate. She's literally got zero experience in government; since "dabbling in witchcraft" as a youngster, she's spent her entire career on the fringes of the radical religious right. Whatever you think about the movie -- whether you believe it fueled anti-Semitism or not -- there's no question that it represents an extreme point of view, a point of view that Republicans want to foist on America through the United States Senate.
When you look at Christine O'Donnell's life and career, that's what these radical Republicans want America to be like. They think people like her -- Sharron Angle, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, etc -- are representing the final few "Real Americans" left. These are people who take Glenn Beck more seriously than he takes himself. And they think this election is about "taking their country back." They're insane, but until and unless moderate Republicans manage to take their party back, they are what the Republican Party stands for.
Donating $5 or $10 today to Chris Coons will help keep Christine O'Donnell out of the U.S. Senate.
