You know those news story where your first thought is: "These guys are up to something"? There was one in the New York Times that said Republicans are so fed up with President Obama, they are now talking about the last time they were able to cooperate with a Democratic President.
That is, when Bill Clinton was in the Oval Office.
They’re kidding, right? Because that’s when they went out of their way to wallow in the gutter and drag the whole country down with them, sticking our noses in their filth like we were the puppies responsible for making a mess on the kitchen floor. Let’s go through a few of their greatest hits:
Whitewater
Travelgate
Vince Foster
Monica Lewinsky
Oh, yeah. And don’t forget that little matter of impeachment.
They must think we’re a bunch of idiots if we’re going to fall for that. They definitely must think the New York Times reporter is an idiot for not immediately laughing in their faces and saying they’re full of it.
What the Republicans have shown, especially since the Clinton presidency, is that they will consider any Democrat in the White House illegitimate, and they will do everything possible to undermine that presidency. Remember, when Clinton was in office, they were saying he was the most radical president in American history. Hell, a couple of years ago, their surrogates in medialand were saying Hillary Clinton was more radical than Barack Obama.
Bill Clinton’s term wasn’t one of sunshine and roses and Republicans and Democrats reaching across the aisle to sing "Kumbaya." The Republicans did everything they could to disrupt everything Clinton did. Newt Gingrich went so far as to shut down the government, out of spite. And get this: Gingrich says if they win the House and Senate in the midterm elections next month, they will shut down the government again.
So this is the latest Republicans line in time for the midterms: "If we only had a president like Bill Clinton, we could compromise and get things done."
The Times story is unbelievable in its naivete.
