With all due respect to another diarist, Ohio has been probably thee number 1 big fucking disaster of this evening.
We not only lost the 3 US House seats that 538 projected us to lose, but we also lost two additional ones we were projected to win. Zach Space, OH-18, was almost considered safe. These guys got trounced too, many losing by double digits.
But that is not all, we lost the Senate seat (expected), the governorship, the state house, and both state supreme court races, and all statewide executive races.
So that means the next Ohio government looks like this:
Governor - Republican
Secretary of State - R
Auditor - R
Treasurer - R
Attorney Genera - R
Supreme Court - 9 R, 0 D
State House - 59-40 R
State Senate - R (don't know exact figure)
Senators - 1 R, 1 D (up for re-election next term)
US Congress - 13-5 R, (down from 10-8 - D)
The Republicans will gerrymander this district so that Dems only have an advantage in maybe 4 seats. Fortunately, for the rest of the country, we are going to lose two seats after this census.
One bright spot is that Zach Space got trounced. This guy voted against health care and was one of the blue dogs holding out for tax cuts for the wealthy. Charlie Wilson another tax cut holdout also lost. Freshmen Kilroy, Boccieri, and Driehaus, health care yea votes - all gone.
Our only hope is that the stench of all of these Republicans will carry over to 2012 and help Obama get re-elected.
And at least we still have Sherrod Brown.
But other than that...
Ohio - one big fucking disaster.
