I heard it said a number of times yesterday that the 2012 election cycle begins today. Okay. Let's go.
Every candidate, in order to win a primary, has to tack to the left as a democrat and the right as a republican.
We can take solace in the fact that the republicans are going to partake in some solid self destruction in their primary battles. The crazy will be there for all to see.
And we sit here, despondent, because the dems have squandered their mandate, and been incapable of embracing anything of a progressive agenda.
But, I think we have an opportunity to do a little adjustment of the party right here, right now, today.
A primary challenge to Barrack Obama needs to begin, immediately. It needs to be led by a coalition of progressive voices, and it needs a viable candidate (No, I am NOT talking about Kucinich. He is a wonderful man and a reliable progressive, but he is NOT presidential)
Dont we ALL wonder if Obama has a clue why he lost? Could he POSSIBBLY think it's because his agenda was too progressive? God, I hope not, but, to be honest, I have no freaking idea. And, for that matter, does the MSM have a clue, as well? I'm pretty sure about this one. A solid NO.
If KOS and Arianna and all the rest REALLY want to effect change ... and do we have ANY time to wait? ... it's time to figure out the who, put up some big money ... and head to early primary states ... and start campaigning.
It will start slow, but the farther left and the louder it gets, the farther left it will drag the president AND congress, by necessiity.
It needs to have a movement attatched with a fancy name (tea party is taken) but it needs to be about injecting that movement into the democratic party.
I would pledge thousands of dollars to a viable far left primary challenger, and I would be happy to see that man or woman eventually lose, if the challenge accomplished what it set out to do. Fix this goddamnable broken democratic party.
