Don't Blame Me I'm From Massachusetts.
While it wasn't a complete Blue Paradise (there were some troubling local results) last Tuesday, we did have a very good night here in Massachusetts. A surprisingly good night. For two reasons.
One, we didn't fall apart after the January Senate election debacle. Pulled ourselves back and got back to work.
Two, and most importantly, one person, with a whole lot of help from some other great people, rethought, reorganized, and reenergized the Massachusetts Democratic Party and the 2010 campaign.
That person was John Walsh, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman.
It's time John goes national.
This was a brilliant grassroots campaign. Actually Grassroots Campaigning 2.0 (Read the details here.)
We Democrats were known for decades as the grassroots party, the party that won election after election with grassroots campaigns that turned out the poor and working class voters in droves. The unions helped, the civil rights and women's rights groups helped, the environmental movement helped. Democrats voted and Democrats won.
Then the appeasers and whiners took over. We disdained the grassroots for big money media campaigns driven by pollsters and consultants. We moved to the center. We triangulated. Whatever the fuck that means.
I say bullshit! Nothing in the middle of the road but yellow lines and dead armadillos.
From Paul Wellstone through Howard Dean to Deval Patrick to Barack Obama the Party clawed its way back into power by bringing back the grassroots. The 50 state strategy helped elect a good many of the Blue Dogs that went down last week.
Tim Kaine is a spineless chickenshit dead as a doornail armadillo.
DNC meeting coming up (November 20th, I think??). Call, email, or otherwise cajole your Democratic National Committee rep. Tell them you've had enough.
Elect John Walsh DNC chair. (Howard Dean for Executive Director or something, please)
Then find someone like John to run your state party. Then find every f'in consultant and pollster you can and, well find something useful for them to do. Ditch digging comes to mind, but hell be creative.
No more dead armadillos. John Walsh for DNC Chair.
