Anchorage Daily News blog has a 1:46 pm update:
In the first counting of the write-ins today:
7638 write ins counted.
6804 unchallenged.
678 were unsuccesfully challenged.
89 were successfully challenged.
89 percent of the write-ins counted so far were perfect for Lisa Murkowski.
Out of 7,638 write-ins counted just 67 wrote in someone other than Murkowski.
There was one write in vote for Joe Miller.
Somebody named Sid Hill received five write in votes. That puts Hill in second place to Murkowski among the write in voters.
The challenges are slowing down the process so that it is expected to take 5 days rather than 3.
There have been write ins for Frank Murkowski, Nancy Murkowski who are Lisa's parents.
A challenge by Miller to "Lisa, Murkowski" was rejected.
The Elections Director
ruled that ballots spelled "Misskowski" and "Morcowski" should not be counted. The Murkowski campaign observer objected to that decision and it will be reviewed.
Prince of darkness, Ben Ginsberg can be seen lurking around the election directors table in the live feed but no one seems to be doing a live blog ala The Uptake so I'm not sure who else I am looking at. Loved The Uptakes double screen video and snarky blog. Maybe Mudflats could get some help from The UpTake to set up the windows. The internet feed at www.360north.org is not working for me but I'm getting the feed on the public access TV channel but there is no audio and no commentary that identifies the people. The camera occasionally zooms in to the Directors table during challenges but it is impossible to tell what the ballot looks like and why it is being challenged. This is a first counting of the write ins rather than a recount as in MN.
