Last week the NOH8 Campaign released a PSA about the connection between bullying and the suicide rate among LGBT teenagers, a video that featured a number of celebrities including, to the surprise of many, Cindy McCain.
Watch:
McCain's lines (coming at 00:49, 00:57, and 01:11) are:
Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future.
They can't serve our country openly.
Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn't they?
Given that her husband, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), is the most prominent (and vocal) opponent of repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, her words raised more than a few eyebrows. And so naturally, being a woman of strong principles, just hours after the video was released, she tweeted:
Stunning. Cindy McCain believes that DADT is a policy that treats people like second class citizens and is directly related to LGBT teen suicide, while at the same time standing by her man and supporting DADT.
If the NOH8 Campaign wants to be taken seriously, they need to cut out Cindy McCain's appearance this video and drop her from any future campaigns.
