To my Democratic friends that were either too disillusioned or lazy to vote; shame on you. You don't always get everything you want but you had a chance to help prevent what all of us didn't want. You laid down and played rug, don't bother getting up, things are only going to get worse.
To my Republican and tea party friends, there is an old maxim out there that goes something like this: 'be careful what you wish for, you might just get it". You wanted to 'take your country back' so you voted for people like Ben Quayle, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell to name a few. Some of them have actually won their races and will be taking their seats in January. In your anger and fear, it didn't seem to matter that these people were extreme even for Republican standards. Apparently you didn't stop and think about the effects of your actions. Now you will get to suffer for those actions along with the rest of us and I think you will find yourself regretting what you have done to this country.
I can imagine several scenarios, none of them good. There is the good old status quo. Perhaps there will be enough Democrats standing to filibuster the extreme garbage bills some of these modern day Bircher's will come up with. Maybe these extremists will throw their own monkey wrenches into bills that would help the citizens of this country. Either way, nothing will get done. Just a lot more of the hate speech and inability to compromise and work across the aisle we have seen in the last two years.
Another scenario would be that some of the bs that has come out of the mouths of these Bircher's and the 'lame-stream' Republicans may come to pass. Things like shutting down government (wonder if that means their paychecks too), impeaching Obama, spending all their time investigating the Democrats, or repealing all or some of the bills that were passed in these last two years. In other words, that vacation to Yosemite or Yellowstone you had planned - you might want to hold off. They will probably be closed. Then again, your social security check will probably be late being auto-deposited into your account so start stocking up on canned goods now. Might be a good idea to start keeping your money in a mattress. If the banking reform bills get repealed, all your hard earned pennies will get sucked up by bigger fees.
It is possible, but highly improbable that once they get to Washington, they will get bit by the 'I really like this cushy job and want to keep it' bug and become just like the Republicans that are there now. Well maybe the first part will come true but I can't imagine the second part.
Personally, I'm giving up tv for the next two years. It was bad enough having to listen to Demint, Cantor, McConnell and Boehner et al, waving empty report covers while spouting titles of fictional plans every time they didn't like a bill the Democrats came up with. Now we will constantly be forced to see Boehner's fake tan (or does he eat too many carrots?) and listen to his glib lies.
Perhaps Tancredo was right. If there had been a test, maybe most of the republican and independent voters would have flunked. Yeah, I know....be careful what I wish for..... but I can dream can't I?
Oooh, I think House Hunters International is coming on now. Much better than election results. Wonder if I can emigrate to Canada or France? I hear they have great health care plans.
