I wanted to give a breif update on the state of the Attorney General's race in California. Currently, Kamala Harris (D-San Francisco) boasts a 51886 vote lead over Steve Cooley (R-Los Angeles County) statewide. Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti, who has blogged extensively on the race on his Facebook page, has called the race for Kamala Harris, noting that statistically it is impossible for Cooley to win the race. ArthurPoet wrote a diary on this topic.

Garcetti is one of the smarter elected officials out there and I feel like he's probably right on this. There are still a number of ballots to be counted at this point but the number is rapidly dwindling down. So I give tonight a brief run through of what is left to be counted.
The following counties have completed their counting:
Alameda County
Alpine County
Amador County
Butte County
Calaveras County
Colusa County
Del Norte County
El Dorado County
Fresno County
Glenn County
Imperial County
Inyo County
Kern County
Kings County
Lassen County
Madera County
Mariposa County
Merced County
Modoc County
MonoCounty
Napa County
Nevada County
Orange County
Placer CountyPlumas County
Sacramento County
San Benito County
San Mateo County
Shasta County
Sierra County
Tehama County
Trinity County
Tulare County
Tuolumne County
Yolo County
Yuba County
Some of these counties have been reported as finished on the Secretary of State's website. But that website being woefully behind, several individual county websites report being finished their counting like Orange County which has 0 ballots left to count and has posted their official results not the erroneously reported 54000 ballots.
What's left to count (or at least be reported) then?
Sonoma County: 35,500 ballots
San Diego County: 2500 ballots
Riverside County: 3700 ballots
San Bernardino County: 8000 ballots
Solano County: 5498 ballots
San Luis Obispo County: 10 ballots
Santa Barbara County: 6,536 ballots
Mendocino County: 12358 ballots
Lake County: 5372 ballots
Humboldt County: 13,387 ballots
Contra Costa County: 16,982 ballots
Some of these counties may have counted these ballots but simply not released new and updated counts. Napa County was stalled on their election night returns until Friday when they reported a complete count. Of these counties, I'll note that only San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo went for Cooley (the last two by narrow margins).
The following counties likely have ballots outstanding that still have to be counted but the number of ballots left is undetermined:
Los Angeles County
Marin County
San Francisco County
Ventura County
Monterey County
San Joaquin County
All of these voted for Kamala (overwhelmingly I might add) except for San Joaquin County and Ventura County, where she did fare pretty well among late counted ballots. These are undetermined counties because they have updated results but it's not clear if they have finished and there may still be more to go.
The current numbers statewide:
Kamala Harris(D): 4,340,454
Steve Cooley(R): 4,288,568
I'm hoping the counting wraps up this week. But things are looking very good for Kamala Harris. Her victory is like a Christmas, birthday, and graduation present wrapped into one.
