I just read Joan McCarter's frontpage post from yesterday about how Elizabeth Warren was instrumental in the vetoing of the foreclosure bill. But, something else stood out to me.
It was pointed out how she is extensively reaching out to the financial services community and their lobbyists as she readies to head up the CFPA. However, in Joan's post, she automatically reasons this as necessary and hoping "to quiet some of her critics". She is not assumed to be a "corporate sell-out" or a "weakling" or any of the other charges that has become prevalent against President Obama, both from many diarists on this site as well as front-pagers (see the current front-page post by kos). So, Elizabeth Warren's reaching out is okay, but President Obama's reaching out is perpetual betrayal and/or stupidity. This, despite the fact that the president's policies so enraged these same wealthy and big corporations to the tune of billions of dollars being spent to defeat him and his policies and a perpetual media campaign against him. This is why I have come to feel so marginalized on this site. The conventional wisdom around here is almost as bad and devoid of fact to me as some of the stuff coming from the far right. And, I am not one to promote false equivalencies, but, in this case, I think it's warranted. And, I'm farther to the "left" (ideologically anyway) than just about everyone I know.
