I have rarely been as angry as I was the other day when I first heard Sarah Palin's comments on Michelle Obama reported during a piece on her new book, "America by Heart."
To think that anyone in their right mind (and no, I don't think she's actually crazy) would go out of their way to attack the First Lady of the United States for encouraging children to eat healthy while we're in the midst of a obesity epidemic, is a thought that makes my head practically explode. Seriously. My wife heard language out of my mouth that she hasn't heard in the more than 30 years that we've know each other. Is Palin attacking Michelle Obama for political gain at the possible expense of the health of our nation's children? Or is she saying these nutty things because she actually believes that NO ONE other than a child's parents has any business trying to influence a child into making healthy life choices? Not teachers, not coaches, not neighbors or ministers or crossing guards or any adult who might possibly want to help influence a young person into taking a better path into their future?
I know she's on a big book tour and the Publicists LOVE it when she says something controversial enough to make it onto the Front Pages and the Evening News, but going after Michelle Obama for encouraging children to grown their own fruits and vegetables is so far out into the ozone layer that you'd need the Hubble Space Telescope to ever find it. Which leads me to believe that the former Governor of Alaska has no real intention of making a serious run at the White House in 2012.
Making money is what really consumes Sarah Palin these days, and she's found that the easiest and most profitable way to go about doing that is by leading the national press on. She's a tease. She hands out tidbits through Twitter and an occasional public appearance, but she never gives anything that's truly satisfying. Like a good show person she always leaves her audience wanting for more. In the age of Twitter and YouTube she's learned the lesson that media rarely goes viral if its any longer than two minutes, and Heaven help us if we don't all keep on listening every time she opens her mouth and says something new that's so monumentally stupid that we can't help but share it with our Friends on Facebook and talk about it around the water cooler on Monday morning
Oh, and making videos that lampoon her is just my way of helping myself to feel better about the whole situation. She is, after all, the Ultimate Alaskan Barbie Doll.
