That was the accusation coming yesterday from the Heritage Foundation, which hosted author John J. Tierney Jr. for a forum titled "The Politics of Peace: What's Behind the Anti-War Movement?"
Tierney researched the movement for a book and came up with some choice descriptions. "I have to say it is communist," he told an audience at the conservative think tank, also describing the groups involved as "revolutionary socialistic" and "cohorts" of North Korea, Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro's Cuba. "We're really dealing with . . . a comprehensive, exhaustive, socialistic anti-capitalistic political structure," he said.

What? What is Tierney talking about and what year is he living in?
First of all, how does communism come into the mix here at all? It is though he is talking about anti war protesters from the Vietnam era. Maybe he thinks this is a way to get people to turn against Cindy Sheehan. I don't even hear people talk about communism much. The cold war is over.
The author said he has "grave, grave problems with the conduct of the operation in Iraq" and wouldn't want to see his 20-year-old son go there. But he said it is "automatic" that anybody who joins a protest by one of the offending groups is supporting communists.
Of course. He is another right wing person who would not want his own son fighting for the noble cause but protesting the war is communist.
I don't feel good even giving this story any attention. However, it seems like a good idea to be prepared if this takes on some sort of national talking point against war protesters.
Undoubtedly, the extreme conservatives will be devouring this book. This is expected. But we need to help Cindy spread the positive support of the troops this anti war movement has. It is completely American to want our troops to be here at home helping those people in need from the hurricane and providing us with national security. It is American to want our troops to be available to provide us with genuine national security if the needs arise rather than fighting a war for oil.
