The election of 2010 is over, and the "good guys" sort of lost. Overall a mixed bag. Lost the House, kept the Senate and lost the governor's races.
Here in Connecticut, the only race outstanding is the Foley-Malloy race for Governor which was sent into turmoil when not enough ballots were sent to Bridgeport, the state's largest city, and which Stamford, the home of Malloy, a Bridgeport neighbor is located. Bridgeport, parts of Hartford and New Haven are all still out, which should be good news for Malloy, since all three cities are all heavily Democratic,in a heavily Democratic state. Whomever wins the Governorship, will still have a Democratic Legislature to work with. Connecticut survived the infestation of the "teabagger nut jobs" by retaining all five of its Democratic Congressional delegation, added Senator-elect Blumenthal and keeps the Legislature.
As for America, the progressives did not lose. We are the victims of the biggest political graft in history, ie the Roberts court, the "gift" from Bush that keeps on torturing us. Citizens United did us in. Sadly, with GOP now in place in the House, there is no way to undo it.
Also, there is NO Tea Party. Yes,there are a whole bunch of radicalized, racist, homophobic,Islamaphobic senile old goats out there who defected to the GOP, but there is no such animal as the Tea Party. Teabaggers yes. Party no!!
The next two years are going to be hell for the Kos crowd and for America. The thing about it,is that the House will actually have to lead. Can they? I fucking doubt it. The "tan man" is one thing, but a leader he is not. If it wasn't so damn pathetic, it would have been funny to watch this asshole explain how being in Washington for almost two decades, he's not a part of the problem,as he did last night.
I think that the teabaggers are going to be in for a lot of "buyer's remorse" when their "heroes", political and actual whores that they are, pay off their debts to the Kook Brothers, the Chamber and Rove the Turd, for buying them their elections. And when the baggers get thrown under the bus, they will be too stupid to realize that they've been played for the fools they are. The baggers may get some small victories, (government shutdown, some small cuts in spending, undeserved tax breaks continuing for the rich, etc).
UPDATE: Connecticut's Secretary of State, Susan Bysiewicz just announced that Democrat Dannel Malloy, the mayor of Stamford, has been elected governor by over 3,100 votes. Bysiewicz says the vote count is unofficial but the results that were delayed in Bridgeport due to the Great Ballot Snafu of 2010 have been counted and Malloy is all but certified. Because of the delay from Bridgeport, another 500 or so voters were able to vote, which the Foley camp went to court to block, (natch, all these a*&holes know how to do is block voters from voting. Bridgeport is a heavily Hispanic and African-American city and Democratic, which means guess who gets disenfranchised?? Happily it didn't work).
Also, the state's threshold for a recount of a statewide race is 2,000, and even if the 500 or so late Bridgeport ballots get chucked by a judge, Foley cannot request a recount. Bysiewicz is also asking the state to mandate that all towns buy 1 ballot for each registered voter on the rolls to avoid this type of snafu again.
One of Malloy's campaign promises is that he would sign into law an end to the death penalty in Connecticut. Malloy, like myself, opposes the death penalty. Connecticut's last executed prisoner was Michael Ross in 1985. Stephen Hayes was convicted earlier this year in the brutal triple-murder of the wife and daughters of Dr. William Petit in 2007. A lot of people in the state are of the "try and fry" mentality. Malloy is not. Whether or not Hayes and his partner, who goes on trial later this year for the same crime, are executed is up to the jury, which is still debating whether or not to give Hayes the chair or life. (Komisarjevsky, Hayes' partner will also be convicted and will face the same penalty.)
Connecticut still has $3,000,000,000 deficit but with a Democratic governor, unions may breathe a little easier knowing that they may be spared massive cuts and layoffs. With Malloy's win, Connecticut remains firmly and solidly BLUE!!!(NOTE: I inserted the update in the wrong place, but I needed to be fast.
As for Obama, hopefully the guy will finally figure out that these guys are out for blood being spilled in massive amounts-his-and that coming to fight armed only with rhetoric and a plastic knife, while the other team comes with the AK-47's,bazookas and the Fixed Noise propaganda machine, is a losing proposition. If Obama wants to continue with the "let's play nice routine", that's nice, but what he needs to say is that we is that you want to compromise and get things done that's also fine, but send me piece of crap legislation and I'll pencilwhip the thing out of existence,so fast that it will make you tanned eyeballs spin in their head. He won't but he should.
What we need to do is an insurgent campaign now, We need to get up commercials and ads touting, demanding "Where's the Jobs, Boner". Today. Not next week, not in January, but now. Obama and the Dems had one of the most productive Congresses in history and it was shortcircuted by a wave of racism, hatred and vile. We need to attack the GOP and make them just as unpalatable.
The GOP will self-destruct, they always do. We need to help them-destroy themselves. I for one, am in no mood to help do anything but destroy them. The corporate media will do everything in their power to aid the GOP on its quest to destroy what's left of America. It will be interesting when the bat-shit crazy ascendant wing of the GOP goes to battle with what is left of the moderately insane wing of the party. We need to be around to pick up the pieces and regroup in 2012!!!
