I just came across upon an MSNBC article titled "Voters say they cast their ballots against Obama, Pelosi." On the Msn.com webpage, the headline reads "US:Of course, given the narratives that I've been hearing for the last two years, I was not at all surprised by such a headline. Anyway I decided to read further hoping to get some insights as to what questions were asked and how the voters responded.
The article is based on exit polling which asks about voters' beliefs aboout the economy, their approval of President Obama, his policies, the Democrats' policies, etc. Then I saw the cited statistic showing the proportion of voters who said that they voted against Obama's policies. Why is the media allowed to report stories that go largely unchallenged? According to the article:
Exit polling data indicated that nearly four in 10 voters said they backed Republican House candidates as a way to thumb their nose at Obama,
Nearly four in 10 said they voted against Obama and Pelosi? So then it means that the MAJORITY of voters did not vote against Obama and Pelosi. Also, keep in mind that when Obama was elected in 2008 after a very successful campaign with no political capital spent, McCain/Palin still received ~ 46% of the vote, which was MORE than four in 10. So, despite the article spin, Obama actually seems to be doing quite well with the voters at a supposedly low point in his presidency.
The article then goes on to smugly and shamelessly give a few cherry-picked examples of individuals who decided to not vote for candidates because of their association with President Obama.
Paul Gentry of Danville, Va., said he voted for Republican Robert Hurt to unseat Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello because "I thought Perriello was too close to the Obama administration, and I'm not too happy with a lot of the things they've done."
So what about all the other candidates who not only supported the President's agenda and were endorsed by him, but were seen campaigning with the President in the weeks leading up the election, like Barbara Boxer, Jerry Brown, Patty Murray, Bennett, etc? What about Caprio "shove it" who saw his poll numbers plummet after making that remark and who subsequently lost to his opponent who by the way, actually used Obama in an ad to bolster his own poll numbers?
Then the article seemingly contradicts itself, this time to put Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in a bad light, by citing another individual who voted for Perriello:
Hyde said he backed Perriello because Hurt "has just went along with whatever Reid and Pelosi wanted."
Why is the media so intent on spinning this election as a referendum on President Obama, when all things suggest that it has hardly anything to do with Obama, but more to the perceptions of the voters in their respective districts and states? We know that the media has an agenda, and that they feel more comfortable when Republicans are in power. But why should we give the media ratings only to have them knowingly and nefariously spread false information to keep the voters ignorant and voting against their best interests? When are we going to take the MSM to task on who is funding it's lying machine? The media brought us George Bush/Cheney and protected him for years while the country was being destroyed. Now they are stepping up again this time to protect the Republicans who are interefering with the progress in this country. When are we going to call them out on this?
ABC News quickly cancelled Breitbart after enough pressure was administered by viewers, so surely, the MSM knows to fall in line when we make our voices heard.
