America has fallen and we can't get it up.
Yesterday’s progressive changes are today’s conservative values. Values do not die, first they waste away, then they grow old and finally they are forgotten.
Much of the panic amongst conservatives today is not for the loss of their values, but fear for loss of themselves. The values they prize they themselves have neglected, paying lip service to what they left untended like a dog locked in a parked car to be stifled by the heat. Poor Bowser, he was a good dog, why did it have to be?
You can’t legislate a family. The traditions and conditions constituting family ties in the patriarchal family have stretched and loosened like an old man’s muscles.
Progress at any price is not progress, it is the forced extrusion of imagination like a stepped on tube of paint, not careful art but thoughtless accident.
Just because you’re right handed doesn’t’ mean you should play piano with your left hand in your pocket. The eagle can’t fly with only one wing.
Progressives can be both Democrats and Republicans if they can agree to get out of the pit we have stumbled into. If not, we are trapped in the crab bucket. One or two, just a few crabs, can always crawl out by themselves. Fill it with a dozen and in their panic they pull each other back, down into the pit crawling on each other’s backs. None can escape.
Rigid political partisanship of any sort is antiquated and non productive, an evident truth if you just look around. It has had its day, useful for a time, increasingly worthless now except to the self seeking crabs on our backs.
Progressives need to separate themselves from the left and stop dating just liberals. Both 'left' and 'liberal' are frequently misconstrued and currently exist as buzz words making them inadequate to the current situation. Progress is a great term. How can a real American be against progress? We need to agree on how we define ourselves and then brand it on the public mind.
The situation as I see it is that Progressivism is an attitude. Specifically, it refers to the use of government to favor change and reform. It is a methodology, not an ideology.
Progressives need a vision that allows anyone to work with them despite their overall ideologies. Classic ideological structure is exclusive and works to prevent co-operation. We don’t need purity, we need to work with other folks human enough to admit they need help, and when we do help them we must do it for the sake of the helping, for the specific project itself, without debts of gratitude imposing inflated balloon payments on their future. We must give what aid we can and trust them to climb out of the bucket themselves not holding us back or negotiating for ideological precedence.
We must make the first moves because they can’t.
Tread on me, I’ll lift you up.
Lincoln was a conservative because he conserved the nation.
Progress is not an ideology, it is a fact or else it is nothing at all.
