Last Saturday, November 6th almost 400 activists gathered to re-energize and get organized for 2011 and beyond at Netroots California. Our venue was the African American Arts & Culture Complex in San Francisco.
The photo is of Raven Brooks, Executive Director of Netroots Nation addressing the crowd, his goal is to have this event in every state. Raven's Top 5 Lessons at Netroots California from his blog.

From the homepage for Netroots California:
California is a big state with an even larger slate of problems that need to be solved. It's also home to some of the most important races in the country -- from progressive hero Barbara Boxer's reelection to the oil industry power grab Prop 23. Win or lose, we need to discuss lessons learned and how to take those lessons learned into 2011 and 2012.
That's why we -- along with our friends at the Courage Campaign and Daily Kos -- are hosting a statewide event bringing together activists from across California to break down the results and have a strategic conversation on strengthening our grassroots infrastructure.
We're calling it Netroots California.
Much like our annual national Netroots Nation conference, we'll have trainings, panels and plenty of opportunities to learn, re-charge, socialize and strategize.
[The agenda we covered.]
Registration began at 8:30 AM in a beautifully sunlit room with bagels and coffee:

More about the venue, The African American Arts & Culture Complex

From Mary Rickles the Director of Communications and Media for Netroots Nation:
We couldn't have done this if unique spaces like the African American Arts and Culture Complex didn't exist in San Francisco. Please consider making a donation to support their work so the space will remain a resource for the local community.
My take away mantra from this event was from Torie Osborn of the California Alliance.
When people of color vote, Progressives win. |
Latinos and Asian Americans shifted the vote to Democrats in California this past cycle and it should be noted that American Indians can be the swing vote in some states like South Dakota.
How 'bout this for catching two Rock Stars?

Uh oh, we went rogue (rouge, if you want) and started Happy Hour early.

Thanks to a generous sponsorship by California Federation of Teachers we enjoyed a Happy Hour immediately following the event at Yoshii's just a few blocks walk away.

I hope the other attendees will tell us in the comment thread about their experience at Netroots California. Tell us about the sessions you attended and what your take away was from them.
Thank you Raven and team! I thoroughly enjoyed this event and I appreciate all the work that went into planning, promoting and executing this event. Great job! I'll gladly attend another one.
