As a hundred thousand+ American citizens make their way to Washington DC to protest the lies, crimes and ineptitude of George Bush, a virtual media blackout of the event has descended upon the nation. It will be covered this weekend in the backseat position to the onslaught of Hurricane Rita, but it will be downplayed, ridiculed and marginalized. Cindy Sheehan, the face of millions, is all but invisible.
While Bush was pummeled by Katrina, Rita may prove his best friend. The evacuation of millions is an important story. It's what happens during major natural disasters. The damage caused by natural disasters is an important story. We see many of them each and every year around the world.
But what of the man-made disaster of Bush's three lost wars, a devastated, bankrupt national economy and the continual cover-up of malfeasance and the malevolent collateral damage of this Administration's misguided, irresponsible and immoral domestic and international policies?
Storms come and go. The damage they cause to people and property can be lasting. But the legacy of the worst presidency in American History will last for generations.
It can't be a secret that the largest mobilization of American Citizens in recent history is happening this weekend. Before the Hurricanes hit, Cindy Sheehan and the disastrous War in Iraq were all the rage in the MSM. And now? Page six, sixteen or twenty-six.
It's not a conspiracy as much as it's convenient. And yet, it's worse than a conspiracy. The mainstream media follows the Rove wet-dream of ignorant invisibility as though they were being blackmailed. And maybe they are. Nixon did it by threatening media companies with revocation of their FCC licenses. But I don't think it's the case here as much as it is the mutual masturbation of corporate and political elites bent upon making the filthy rich even filthier.
In Afghanistan we have the spectacle of the Afghan President suggesting the United States cease the aerial bombardment of suspected `terrorist' strongholds. Why? Too many innocent people being killed. Too much collateral damage. Karzai also wants the Americans to use a modicum of civilized search and seizure as opposed to the heavy handed, Bluto approach. But the American military tells their whore to fuck off. What does Karzai think: we actually believe our tripe about spreading freedom and democracy? And this is AFGHANISTAN. A war we won before 2002 ever rolled around. Just because we don't hear much about this war, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It exists and it's a major clusterfuck.
In Iraq, not only is there a civil war exploding, but two civil wars. It's not just Sunni and Shia, but now Shia against Shia as Basra explodes into a pinwheel clusterfuck of Katrina proportions. Americans die everyday. Iraqis die every hour.
Bush has lost the war against terrorism (the third war) because he never fought it. He crows about his failure as if it's a victory. "We fight them there, so we don't have to fight them here." The Bush Administration is nothing but a cynical bullshit artist. There is NOTHING more important in the world than throwing these bums out.
Listen, I don't want to diminish the pain and suffering of Americans, during natural disasters. We don't see them in the `homeland' very often. It's disturbing and sad.
But, folks; the ongoing, chronic and lethal disease known as the Bush Administration is a threat to the very future of the world. The Bush Administration is a Category 10 Hurricane that spans the globe.
This weekend lots of Americans will be marginalized again as domestic Hurricanes take precedence over international death and destruction with no end in sight by evil-doing American war criminals.
I don't know how to bridge what I consider this major problem of the mainstream media's inability to cover more than one story at a time.
I am preaching to the choir, I know, because nearly 70% of the American People believe the country is `heading in the wrong direction.'
But even with that veto-proof majority, we seem somehow enthralled, enslaved and entangled in the mainstream media's agenda of ignoring the will of the people.
I don't know the answer, but I do know we need to find one and fast.
The Hurricanes are important. They affect the lives of thousands and thousands of innocent people. They cause death and destruction.
But, compared to the death and destruction caused by the Bush Administration; Katrina and Rita pale by comparison.
