I know. I know. It's not good enough, but it is a start. Our Governor Pat Quinn is sure to sign it now that it passed both houses. The debates in the Senate were absurd. The republicans were equating this with the fall of Rome. Well, it's the fall of some of the inequality same sex couples have faced, but...
Here's one of these douchebags that quoted a relative of MLK saying he didn't take a bullet for same sex marriage.
Notice he kept it classy by saying,"what about the children?" Way to keep the government small asshole!
Now for the good guys. Updated to post the best one:
The sponsor of the bill:
That's a good dem for ya, but we do have some bad ones too:

A side note, both the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago extend spousal benefits to same sex partners already.
Updated with a funny comment thread from CapFax, an IL politics blogand Edit again to keep only the relative parts and clean it up to make it readable

Why is the civil unions bill limited to one person-one person relationships? What happens if one person wants to join a union with two others. Two on two. One person and a goat? All these couplings are as valid as the civil unions proposed by this bill. Here is my sole problem with civil unions, and one I cannot resolve.
Discuss.
