At this time of the year, if you are alone---no matter what your income circumstances are; one often finds themselves down or depressed--a feeling of emptiness; no desire to participate in the holidays.
This is the time to be most active; to revisit our past--to re-ignite that good spirit that is in all of us.
I used the phrase recently to someone; that there is "a little girl, or little boy" in all of us. We need to bring some of that 'glow" to the forefront. If you are living alone, and are down--often one doesn't bother with holiday celebration, or worry about doing anything special.
I take the other approach---as a Christian, I celebrate the Christmas Holiday, with all it's usual flair----the tree with ornaments, house decorating, lights outside---the whole shabang. And plenty of Christmas music, too.
I do it for myself---I have virtually no company; but that "little boy" comes out in me---and I enjoy the magic of Christmas. It's easy to start to remember the fun one had years ago....
Now, whether or not you celebrate Christmas, there are many other things you can do....
This season, no matter what, is generally a period of giving, of helping others in some fashion.
If you need a lift---think of what someone who is truly destitute is feeling; and then think of what you could do to help them.
No matter what your income level---one can always volunteer a few hours at a food shelter, or a local food drive, or toy drive. Imagine the joy on the faces of those receiving some much needed supplies. Think of that kid that just got a new toy truck, or maybe a doll.....
If you are financially better off, certainly you can donate to these causes also.
Beyond that, however, are other areas in which to help---consider a donation to your local animal shelter--many of them are barely making it.
Further, think about adopting a kitten or small dog---everyone needs a home.
Still wondering what could get you out of your doldrums? How the little lady down the street, that you know is also alone? Think she'd like some holiday cookies or a small pie? Cooking is another simple task that can bring a reward to both yourself; and some others.
Lastly, when all is said and done---take a walk in the snow, or down your local main street----and remember the good times; and be thankful that you are still able to enjoy many things that perhaps some others can't.
Peace to all....
