We have all heard the story of deluded former Lt Col Terrance Lakin. The man who decided he couldn't report for deployment based on his belief in the Birther fantasy. And he is now former Lt Col Lakin.
Orly Taitz has dragged another one down.
And today the bill came due. His defence, wasa of course shakey ( gross understatement ). In fact, yesterday he pleaded quilty to not following orders to report. Today he was found guilty of missing his flight. His defence against that is that he could have taken alternate means to arrive at his ordered destination. Problem was...he didn't signal that intent. Epic Fail.
And just a little while ago, Lt Col Lakin was sentenced to six months confinement and dismissal.
There goes the pension. Now, I don't know what sort of discharge he will get -- a Dishonarable is usually reserved for murderers and rapist's. But it is likely he will receive a Bad Conduct Discharge ( bad chicken discharge in parlance ) or " Other". Doesn't matter. Either causes loss of benifits.
MoDo had a great piece yesterday ( it's been a while ) on the trial. Well worth a read. She reported he seemed diminished, as if the full import of what he he created was suddenly before him. And the sudden reaslization that he had received abyismally bad legal advice. In fact he pleaded with the court to able to continue serving ( like that was going to happen ).
The birther crowd was with him. I'm sure that helped. Friends like that.....
One has to wonder what posseses an educated man to throw his life away on an internet rumor. I am sure there are others out there ( Commisioned members of the Air Force for one ) and I hope this ruling doesn't cause them to slink under a rock. I hope it emboldens ( Embiggins? ) them. And they speak up.
So we can clean them out too.
