The video I've posted with my journal entry (which I co-wrote and directed) was done to illustrate a point. I recall when President Clinton first put DADT into effect back in the 90's, and the firestorm which ensued from the Right Wing about the mere thought of the US Military in any way, shape or form countenancing the mere thought of Gays and Lesbians being allowed to serve in uniform under any conditions.
Over time, they hammered out DADT, which left no one happy and cost President Clinton a great deal more political capital than it was worth, but over time things settled down until the events which transpired over the past weekend: the Senate voted to repeal DADT.

The really ironic thing about the Repeal was how bitterly the Right fought to retain a policy which they once viewed as a revolting compromise. Now, to hear them talk, DADT has become a vital policy in maintaining the strength and cohesiveness of the American Armed Forces. And while the video I've posted was meant to make fun of the Right for their passion for what was essentially a policy encouraging people to lie about who they were (sounds a little like some politicians I could name who've come out of their own special closets,) I have found that many, many people who have viewed the film have taken it for the real thing -- despite the flip references to mojitos at the film's end.
I guess that a lot of people can imagine Right Wingers embracing the foundations of DADT to continence keeping one's mouth shut about things like spousal abuse in order to save a marriage. Don't ask me who broke my arm or blackened my eye and I won't tell you who did it to me. Who cares about what misery would ensue from such a policy? To the kind of minds who embrace DADT as good policy, I'm sure that spouses protecting their mates from jail time makes just as much "moral" sense.
As for gay bars on the bases (see the video), I don't actually think any of us will ever live to see that day, but off base is an entirely different matter -- except now they'll be out in the open, without any fear, and I'm sure they'll make a lot of our Gay and Lesbian Soldiers very happy (and make some bar owner a lot of money.)
