The news on the campaign to reform Senate rules keeps getting better. Yesterday, all returning Democratic Senators signed a letter to Harry Reid in support of reforming Senate rules regarding the filibuster. Today, Greg Sargent confirms that Harry Reid is working with the Democratic caucus to make rules reform a reality:
Still more good news for filibuster reform: Harry Reid is in active discussions with his caucus about moving forward with reform in the new year, and is currently devising a plan to do just that, a senior Senate Democratic leadership aide tells me.
At a caucus meeting this week attended only by Senators and no staff, Reid and fellow Dems devoted a significant chunk of time to a discussion about specific ideas on how to proceed, the aide says.
With the 111th Congress over, Senate rules reform is now the central campaign in Congress. January 5th is the big day on rules reform, and it’s less than two weeks away.

From its inception, Daily Kos has been involved in every aspect of this campaign. For over a year, David Waldman provided the historical and procedural background for reform. In July, Joan McCarter got Harry Reid on record promising reform. We helped build grassroots support for the effort, as well as the coalition of organizations backing it. We raised money to make David Waldman a staffer for the coalition, and took part in Capitol Hill meetings with Senate staff on the subject.
Over 30,000 Kossacks have already taken action on rules reform. They are one of the main reasons why this is happening. Join them now, by signing our petition to make the filibuster a real filibuster.
