Happy Holiday Season to you all. This is just going to be a random selection of photos. I hope you enjoy this little presentation.
Tundra Color, Denali Nat'l Park
Shorebreak, North Shore, Oahu
Pantropical Spotted DolphinThis is the species of dolphin most associated with schools of tuna and millions were killed before more dolphin safe methods of fishing were enacted. I am sure many are still being killed but it isn't as bad as it used to be.
Mother and Calf Humpback Whale
They are back in our waters to breed and give birth after summering in Alaska.
Japanese White Eyes
Honu or Green Turtle
False Killer WhaleThis insular population of false killer whales has recently been recommened for listing as an endangered species. Research has shown that this population is collapsing and they currently number only about 120 individuals.
Brown BearThis two sows got into a brief squabble when their yearling cubs were checking each other out and one of the sows got too close to the other's cub.
Another Hawaiian Sunset
Ho hum. Hee hee.
Day Octopus
Looks like it is night doesn't it? But it is not. Would I lie to you?
Harlequin Shrimp
Aren't they a pretty pair?
Byodo-In Temple, Oahu
Nice to have this in the neighborhood.
Kangaroo Nudibranch
This sea slug is named for the long thick "tail".
The Cauldron
My favorite sunrise location.
Trembling Nudibranch
Named for the "trembling" gills and rhynophores (rabbit ears) possibly because the namer saw them in an area with current. I am guessing.
Lioness
They aren't fond of crossing water, but they will.
African Wild Dogs
Very endangered. There are possibly fewer than 3,500 of these amazing social creatures left.
Leopard
This is a large male. He controls a huge territory that contains four females.
Glossy Starling, Botswana
African Fish Eagle
Christmas Tree Worm
For you Christians out there. Merry Christmas!
Great Frigate
These birds have the largest wing area to body mass ratio of any bird and are incredible fliers.
Viper Moray
Cute huh?
Some Color
Lilac Breasted Roller, Botswana
A favorite.
