Dear KOSsacks:
This idea came to me, and I'm trying to get people involved. I can think of no better way to put the keepers of world power on notice that sane human beings simply don't really want to fight, hurt, and kill each other.
For any reason.
There's no "angle" here, no "what's in it for me." No mention of any of my personal or commercial interests; no ideological or religious slant. Simple the idea that the vast majority of people in the world would rather be peaceful and loving and respectful to each other than hurt and kill each other.
It is my wish to establish at least ONE 24-hour period each year when every single person around the world makes a firm committment. For those who need a written guide, the following will suffice:
"I pledge my solemn vow of honor that beginning at Midnight GMT, January 1, for 24 hours I will refrain from anger; from contentiousness; from covetousness; from avarice; from condescension; from violence; from hate; from ugly, small b...ehavior; from hurting people and animals.
I will strive with absolute diligence to show love, compassion, empathy, respect, and peace in my every word and every action.
In this way I join with my fellow brothers and sisters on this planet to express my preference to reject hate, war, and violence entirely. These things are engaged in by military, commercial, and governmental leaders for their own ends, and rarely if ever serve a positive purpose for the people who are caught actually fighting and dying in the wars.
With this commitment, I make my voice heard: No sane human being ever WANTS to hurt another, in any way, and on this day, for just this 24 hours out of the year, I will refuse to do so."
No excuses for being in the military - look up the Christmas Truce of 1914, it can be done. Obviously law enforcement and other civil protection personnel may not be able to avoid violence...but they can if all 6 billion of us participate.
Spread it around. I believe that human beings are essentially good, kind, and desirous of peace over war whenever peace can be made...and if we, the people of this planet, choose to make peace in defiance of our "leaders," then by all means, let those leaders attempt to sanction all six billion of us.
24 hours without hate and violence in the world. What better way to start a new year?
Spread it around, open event, no invite restrictions. Event link on Facebook: Event: A World-Wide Day of Peace
Thanks!
