Koch Industries' reach is well-documented and expansive. So expansive, in fact, that some have argued that the company is "too big to boycott."
And with subsidiaries like Georgia Pacific, those people might just be right. But what if, one product at a time, we strategically reduced our dependence on Koch?
We may never achieve enough market attrition to hurt their bottom line. But at the same point, is it not worth it to know that your hard earned dollars aren't being funneled to the Tea Party?
Start small, and start in your kitchen. Chances are, the Kochtopus has its tentacles in there. If you have Brawny, Sparkle, or Mardi Gras, you have inadvertently funded the Kochtopus. Perhaps you should use a store brand (one not using Georgia Pacific paper), or even Bounty (not a Koch brand).
Some may look at this as a futile gesture. It may well be. But I believe the cause to be worthwhile. And if we can change our habits one product at a time, we can start to get the message across that we as progressives are not going to continue to support companies whose interests conflict with our own.
After all, supporting those whose interests conflict with their own is what Republican voters do.
