In my frustration and angst of all the latest happenings in the Democratic Party and our government in general, I am penning my first diary here at the 'ole Daily KOS. I've been reading here for about two years and became a member about a year ago or less. I value all the KOS'ers opinions, welcome a good debate, constructive criticism, and appreciate all the information you all post to keep me "in the know" and abreast of the latest happenings on The Hill. Please go easy on me on on this first diary though, I'm a virgin. Ha!!
In the wake of what some are calling President Obama's G. Dubbya
moment yesterday regarding the "Deal" with the GOP to extend the Bush tax cuts,
I have a few comments, good and bad, that I would like to throw around with all
of you and see what you think.
First, after thinking it through last night, contrary to all the anger that is
being thrown The Presidents way by his own party and the Progressive/Liberal
left voters, I kind of see where he's coming from about "compromising" with the
GOP on the tax cuts. I just don't think I would be negotiating for the same
things as he is. Here's why.
Think about it, if the tax cuts were to expire or only go up for the top 2% &
those making over $250,000, do you really think that would get the economy going
or the Democrats anywhere?? Not no but, hell no!!! These tax cuts have been in
place for a decade now. Not only did these tax cuts turn a $230 billion surplus
into trillions of dollars of deficit, they also produced a mere 3 million new
jobs under the Bush Administration's eight years in the White House. The
previous eight years Bill Clinton created 23 million jobs and managed to leave
us with a surplus. He did it by having these same evil "high taxes" that we've
been brainwashed into thinking are the kiss of death and will turn this
recession into a deep depression if they were to expire. Pfffft, whatever.
The point I'm trying to get to here is that the Democrats and the President are
damned if they do and damned if they don't, either way they lose if you ask me.
Buuuut, maybe not, they need to be better finagler’s and get to the meat of this
problem... JOBS!!!
The GOP are right about one argument on this issue, if the tax cuts were only
extended to the middle class and not for the top 2% or to those small business
owners making over $250,000 a year, as much as we don't think we need them, they
do create a lot of the jobs in this country. I feel they will retaliate, for
lack of a better word, if they don’t get these cuts. They are going to sit on
their piles of money, build more petting zoos with weird and exotic animals in
their back yards or just not open a new business because they can't get a loan
from the miniature giraffe herder’s that lend out all the money. They will do
nothing for two years and still be filthy rich, it doesn’t matter to them. They
are not even going to THINK about hiring people, stimulating the economy by
giving loans or increasing production. They will continue to hold the American
people "hostage" and will refuse to do anything in their power to help
the Obama Administration's numbers increase, be it unemployment, GDP, or what
have you, they are not going to help if he goes up on their taxes, that's not
how they play the game.
They will continue to stifle the system and cause as much grid lock as possible
until they get to the 2012 elections. They will then take control of the White
House because the American people are angry and frustrated because their lives
are not improving and then they will promise them the moon, fill their heads
with sugar plum fairies’, and take control of our government for the next two
years, possibly longer. They are already collecting "sound bites" for the big
day. From Sarah Palin's twitter feed yesterday...

Here’s what I propose. I think the Democrats should keep tax cuts for 2-3 years
but not for a 2% decrease in income tax, or 18 months of unemployment benefits.
I think they should negotiate for JOBS!!!! I say they offer these tax break
ONLY to people that have a certain percent increase in FULL TIME,
PERMENANT, jobs within their company's and base their "cuts" on a sliding
scale of how much they make or how big the tax cut is in regard to how many new
hires they have, I don't know the specifics, haven't thought all that out yet.
I hate to say it but what good exactly is a 2% decrease in income taxes when you
have no job?? This serves no purpose to the people that aren't working and I
promise you that the people that are currently receiving unemployment benefits
would much rather be getting a job with the promise of a future for them and
their family's well being rather than some check for peanuts that you can't even
buy beer and cigarettes with. :-)
Before you go calling me a cold and heartless person that has no idea what it's
like to be unemployed, you are wrong, I've been there and am pretty much there
as we speak. I am currently working for peanuts, below my education and skills
level, so that I can put food on the table and keep the lights on. I rob Peter
to pay Paul every month and have since 2007. I feel their pain, I really do. But
I think if there was a large influx of jobs to the economy it would be a win/win
for everyone and it wouldn't take all that long to get out of this mess. I just
don’t see how paying people to sit at home and giving them a 2% decrease in
their income taxes that they don’t pay anyway because they aren’t working, is
going to help, it's just not, if it will, PLEASE explain it to me because I'm
confused on how this will be anything more than a Band-Aid for 18 months and
then we will be back to square one.
"Give a man a fish...he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish...he eats forever...."
OK, so that's my proposal and my first diary. Sorry I went on so long, I tend to
babble when I get excited and am trying to prove a point, work with me.
Thanks for reading,
