Obama still has a chance of fixing the mess he's created. He can 'use' the Democrats and conservative republicans in Congress as his reason.
He could have another press conference announcing that the deal has been broken because of a few Democrats and a few Republicans in Congress. So, because of this, he and Congress's leadership will begin anew.
Didn't he do that once before? Remember in November of 2009 the health care bill?

WASHINGTON — It took months of deliberation, presidential prodding and a last-minute, $300 million deal to start Senate debate on the health care bill. It took until the next morning to be back at square one.
A day after the Senate voted along party lines Saturday to bring President Obama's 10-year, $848 billion health care proposal to the floor, familiar fissures reopened over unresolved issues such as a proposed government-run health insurance program.
And this was after an actual vote had taken place, yet they had to begin anew.
President Obama is now on record as trying to compromise with Republicans only to be rebuked against by conservative Republicans. He's also on record as getting his own base angry at him for not fighting for more. He has his 'proof' sort of speak to take to the bank during the 2012 election cycle.
Now the president can begin anew. He can actually sit down with the Democrats in Congress and come up with a strategy to fight the Republicans.
If the Republicans still won't budge on tax cuts stopping for the rich or allowing unemployed to continue getting their checks, so be it. Obama tried his level best to get that plan to work. He can't help if he didn't have the votes from both party leaders.
As in the past, Republicans will end up caving on the unemployment, especially here at Christmas time. They'll also cave on the Start treaty. And if they don't, they will forever be on record as being the reason it didn't happen.
Come late January or February, the president should travel the country demanding a new tax cut for the middle class and small business only. Push, push and push again for those tax cuts just as former President Bush did. Eventually Americans will pressure the Republicans into voting for the tax cut.
President Obama has got to put his foot down somewhere, draw that line in the sand as he calls it. He tried the negotiations idea -- it didn't work -- again.
It's time to stand by your promises Mr President. Back away from the "deal" and start anew!
