Some of you may recall last year's series called the kOscars™, an awards series all things Daily Kos in 2009.
You didn't hear about it?
This will get you started. There were dozens of diaries, three of which were recommended, and a few mentions on the front page as well.
This has been a community effort from the onset, so everyone's input is valued in deciding the best way to do things.
This concept was stated more succinctly by exmearden
an excellent idea and one that I hope continues each year. Hopefully with a lot of collaboration so that just a few aren't carrying the major load...
Today we begin cementing the categories for 2010 as we ask for more help from the community organizing the polls.

There were many polls in the early diaries to help determine the categories, etc. In fact, the polling results (only 1 "Nay") were what made this idea become reality.
It helped a great deal when other people began posting kOscars™ diaries (cfk being the first to do so, Patriot Daily followed shortly thereafter). Later, we saw rogue diaries by Land of Enchantment, Seneca Doane, & wader. Good times.
I think that it's clear that the only way this concept was successful was the groundswell of grassroots support, if you will. With that said, I truly hope that this year, participation will be an even more collaborative effort than last year's series.
Hence the creation of this group account so anyone, even people who already posted their daily diary, can post an "official" kOscars diary to drum up interest. This is your big chance to influence the process this time.
The way best way is to volunteer in the comments to serve your little corner of the blogosphere by supporting future kOscars efforts.
This handle got off to a good start, earning a rare meta Rescue with its inaugural post:
kOscars 2010: Let's talk

Now it's time to kick things into high gear.
We gotta settle the loose ends, and get as many people in the kitchen spoiling kicking ass with the soup. YES, SOUP FOR YOU!
Brass Tacks
Besides begging trawling for volunteers to post diaries like this (actually nomination diaries are the big fish to fry), let's try and settle a few of the issues raised since last year's tally was complete.
Biting off small morsels, I open pandora's box the can of worms on these two bullet points from last year/last week:
ITEM ONE:
• Some categories had too many nominees.
Having mentioned the fact that thick skin might be required didn't seem to spare all the possible hurt feelings. Taking steps to avoid such scenarios will be challenging, but might be necessary.
Most people seem to concur that a runoff of sorts will be the best idea. If we adopt that notion without objection, the question becomes when/where do we draw the line? A nice round number is nice. Shall we say more than 8 nominees? Getting a field of 10+ down to a final runoff of 8 seems reasonable to me, but you are free to remark in the comments why that sucks and what wold be better.
ITEM TWO:
• Too many/too few categories?
If so, which ones should be omitted?
Which ones should be broken into two?
I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the former is the issue, not the latter. I think we concurred that all FP cats should be nixed (there were only 2). That gets us down to around 2 dozen cats.
Listed are 8 cats that had either fewer nominations, or fewer votes than the more popular categories.
All polls use Flash; you will need a Flash-enabled device to vote.
The poll here will allow for multiple votes, so let's see how this trial run goes for culling a few of the cats that can be more easily combined with others.
Voting for a category signifies that you want to keep it.
Only vote for "All categories SHOULD REMAIN" if you also sign up to post a diary or two. This cannot be gamed. If only 1 person signs up, that choice gets only 1 vote. Simple.
Poll closes in 10 days. (Closes Dec. 18th)
