Hey NYC - 40+ and sunny today. Great day to be outdoors. Amidst the jumble of e-mails in my in-box this week from the various lists I'm on, I clicked on one that has changed my outlook on this weekend.
Not much of a diary, but hopefully it'll hit the eyeballs of at lew a few folks who might not otherwise be aware of today's event. Details for today's march across the Brooklyn Bridge and protest at the HQ office of Wellpoint/Anthem after the jump...
SAT., FEB. 20
11:30 a.m. – Gather at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn
12 noon – March steps off
1:00 p.m. – Rally in front of 1 Liberty Plaza, corporate headquarters of Wellpoint/Anthem Insurance. (Broadway and Liberty Sts., any train to Fulton St., Broadway-Nassau)
Bring posters, signs, and banners!
• AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE. Washington must move forward on a Change Agenda!
• HEALTH CARE IS THE WEDGE ISSUE FOR THE CHANGE AGENDA. If health care moves, so does everything else: jobs and labor law reform, climate change, financial services reform, and immigration reform.
• WASHINGTON MUST FINISH THE JOB ON HEALTH CARE. Get health care reform done, get it done right, and get it done now!
• THE SPECIAL INTERESTS AND THEIR POLITICAL SHILLS ARE STOPPING HEALTH CARE AND THE CHANGE AGENDA – health insurers, drug companies, banks and Wall St. firms, business trade groups.
Organized by Metro New York Health Care for All Campaign, Citizen Action, Health Care for America Now, NYCforChange, MoveOn, UWS Baby Boomers for Change, Communications Workers of America, Committee of Interns and Residents, Downtown East for Obama, Raising Women's Voices, Queens County for Change, Queens Young Democrats, National Physicians Alliance, NW Bronx for Change, Barack Obama Democratic Club of Northern Manhattan, Westchester Health Care Reform Task Force, Center for Independence of the Disabled in NY, Tribeca for Change, Eric's Law, Health Care for All NY, Young Invincibles, NY-DSA, NY Immigration Coalition, NYers for Accessible Health Coverage, NYS Nurses Assoc., Public Health Assoc. of NYC
Hope to see you there. I'll be the one in the bright orange skull cap with the Obama logo (from the inauguration festivities 13 long months ago!).
