Ron Paul wins the CPAC/Repub/Fright Wing Nutter straw poll for President, Axelrod and Emanuel should be getting together for drinks, lots o drinks.
There is a fight going on for the soul of the republican party and it looks like the Libertarians are going all-in. Now while I think the Libertarians has its share of kooks and nutters, they do say the right things regarding our foreign policy. They are against American intervention in "everything" foreign, of which Libs are in agreement. Democrats can agree with them on most points.
IMO, we cannot afford to have our hand and troops in every friggin' conflict or perceived conflict around the world. We cannot have pre-emptive war, that is a bunch of bullshit of the highest order.
We need to stay out of the Iran thing and let them do what they want as long as they don't attack our interests. We lived with Red China for all these years when they had nukes and now look at the relationship.
Our troops do a lot of great things around the world, especially as ambassadors to the American way of life. But, we cannot afford to be drumming up wars and sustaining the cold-war infrastructure that is now antiquated and unneeded. Its time to pull our troops out of countries that don't want us there, i.e. Japan, South Korea, Europe writ large. Its a complete waste of money and is not needed.
Now back to the republicans...Dems have a real chance of knocking these guys back on their heals. Where the last 4 months of 2009 were horrible for Dems, the last 9 months of 2010 could be a whole lot better for Democrats.
The Libertarian wing of the Republican party will fight over fundamental things like foreign policy, spending, Medicare, and Social Security. Well republicans, with the exception of a few dead-enders, will not want to propose anything that goes within a hundred miles of Social Security and Medicare. However, Libertarians hate these programs, so it will be interesting to see if the teabagger, patriot, nutter candidates they field in the spring and summer primaries will push this agenda and if congressional republicans will go along. Its like two trains coming at each other on the same track, you can't help but to watch.
Axelrod and Emanuel need to unleash all of the Democratic party's resources to help primary every republican in the country with a true blue teabagger, who is opposed to Social Security and Medicare. That will ensure that Democrats keep the House and Senate no matter the economy this fall...Yes Axe and Rahm are having drinks, lot's o drinks!
