As just a simple citizen, not some wonk congressional strategist, if the WH is going to roll us on the Public Option, does it make any sense to ask them to throw us the sop of a trigger?
Count me in the group that was disappointed that we didn't even get the up or down vote on single payer. And we lost the Public Option in the senate, and Medicare Part E (for everyone). We need to get HCR passed this year or we're going to be totally toast in November. So what's the thinking on how we fix this problem in the future since there is going to be a terrible backlash if we have the mandate forcing everyone to buy the crappy product from the insurance companies but no mechanism to force them to hold the line on pricing?
Do we come back and try to pass a public option as a standalone? I don't see that happening if it couldn't pass now.
If we can get the trigger language in the bill now, do we leverage that against Snowe as one of the bipartisan compromises? does this give any sort of wedge to re-introduce the public option in the future? Or is this just a bad idea that is a non-starter at this time?
How do we ever fix this? Just asking...
