Details are still coming in, but a female elementary teacher was shot and killed outside Birney Elementary School in Tacoma Washington, this morning, before school had started or children had arrived.
The woman had a protection order against the man who shot her. He approached her in the parking lot before school and fired a weapon, killing her.
He then left the area but police caught up with him an hour or so later, in eastern Pierce County and exchanged gunfire and killed him. This was in the parking lot that housed a pre-school. The children were dismissed for the day to their parents.
Birney Elementary school is closed for the day. More details will be coming later.
As an elementary teacher, this just sends a chill through me. Prayers to the family and to her co-workers at school.
Local newspaper blogs are already starting with the pro/anti gun arguments.
Sigh...

The man was not related to the woman. He allegedly had taken masters degree classes with her and had been stalking her, leaving roses and notes on her car.
