This is what the Democrats in Congress need to be doing oh...just every day between now and November:
House Democrats are going to force their Republican colleagues to vote on a resolution opposing the privatization of Social Security. The move shows Democrats are putting their full political muscle into painting the Republicans as enemies of Social Security and using the chief GOP budget writer Rep. Paul Ryan's plan to cut benefits as evidence.
Democrats get so caught up in policy that they forget that some down and dirty politics is necessary, too.
Following in the footsteps of preznit Bush in 2005, Rep. Paul Ryan's budget calls for the privatization of Social Security. Today House Democrats, Rep. John Larson (D-CT) and Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) along with at least 18 of their colleagues, are offering a resolution that says, in part:
Resolved, That the Congress should stand with the American people to reject severe changes to Social Security, including any and all attempts to privatize Social Security, and instead should commit to work bipartisanly to make common-sense adjustments to Social Security to strengthen it for future generations while preserving its guarantees of secure income and family protection in the event of a worker's death, retirement, or severe disability.
See how easy it is to get them on the record about their positions? Republicans vote for the resolution, they must repudiate their stinker budget. Republicans vote their conscience...voters see their true colors. Ta Da!
Now...if the jokers in the Senate would come around and do something similar, maybe we could get somewhere.
