In short, the Saints found themselves quickly down 10-0 after the first quarter and I started thinking, "Well, at least it was good that they made it to the Superbowl."
Come on, I bet most of you were thinking that.
But Saints recognized the huge opportunity they were wasting. They grew a pair, made some really bold calls such as the Onside Kick, going for a touchdown on 4th down, going for a two point conversion, etc.
Even when their 4th down conversion failed, they still stopped the Colts and got 3 points out of it. But it sent a message that they weren't afraid of going big and failing.
The Onside Kick cemented that message and even if they blew that too, they could still come away with a lot of respect for even calling that play.
We'll never know what would have happened if they played it safe but my guess is that they wouldn't be celebrating Mardi Gras early.
What's missing in Washington is that same bold play calling. Everyone is risk averse, wants to play safe, not make any tough votes, or seem "partisan". People are drawn to Republicans because, whether you like it or not, they aren't afraid of being bold. Strong and wrong rather than weak and right, you know?
Well, it's time for some bold play calling. I hope this is a step in the right direction.
Obama, Pelosi, and Reid: It's time for an Onside Kick! Step it up and if we're going to lose in November, do it in a way that leaves no one doubting if your hearts were in it to win!
Update: Wow, first time on the Rec list! Thanks, everyone! Now let's pass a damn health care bill! Even if it's just a Senate version which can be expanded on over the next four years.
