Last weekend I diaried about a bizarre poll question from a robocall which identified itself as sponsored by the so-called National Organization for Marriage.
Now the traffic on my neighborhood listserve has revealed NOM's purpose in creating bogus poll numbers with misleading questions...
Apparently NOM was polling more than one question last weekend, according to my neighbors:

moments ago i rec'd a call from the National Organization for Marriage. it asked: "do you know that Mayor Adrian Fenty signed a bill making gay marriage in washington, dc legal? and Leo Alexander opposes same sex marriage? "
well if that's the case, then i fully endorse Mayor Adrian Fenty for re-election!
It seems that NOM is trying to build support for DC Mayoral candidate Leo Alexander (whom I've never heard of before now), who declared his candidacy last September.
However Alexander doesn't seem as keen on NOM as they are on him:

Those were bought by NOM not by my campaign...
Leo Alexander March 14 at 8:40am Report
and we didn't approve the script...

Leo [Alexander] sent you a message.

Re: NOM calls
It's no secret about my position on same sex marriage. My position is no
different than President Obama's position...because of my religious beliefs I support civil unions without discrimination. When asked the question, I speak about it often at my coffee chats in the community.
LA
That's about as right-wing as you'll hear from a viable DC candidate for citywide office. Keep pissing away your money down our rat-hole, please, NOM!
