American Indians don’t have to buy insurance. Those with religious objections or a financial hardship can also avoid the requirement.
Religious objections? I'd like to see the specific language which spells this out, but on the face of it, I would say this provides a huge opening through which the right can drive this entire process down the drain. All someone needs to do is come up with a moderately plausible "Christian" reason for objecting to buying health insurance (hell, they could say it's akin to gambling, for instance) and next thin you know the government is going to be bombarded with millions of teabaggers applying for a religious exemption to buying insurance.
I know this isn't much of a diary because I haven't got more than that, but does anyone have the actual text on which this is based? Because on the face of it, this seems like a very wide-open backdoor out of the whole process.
