The most recent talking head/pundit shiboleth has been that the Democrat's will lose seats because many of them are in districts where McCain won, therfore they had stuck their necks out.
As I was watching the healthcare debate, I saw many who rose up and just stated their opposition. "I revise and extend my remarks to oopose this flawed bill." I had to kick myself because, I realized that the opposite is true as well. There are many Republican's who come from district that went strongly for Obama who opposed healthacre. Would they not be just as vulerable as well? Would not their necks be way out there too?
What I do not have is the grassroots knowledge that those of you in KOSland have. You live there and are in the fights. So tell us what is happening at the local level there. So I am going try a series of diaries and experiment with citizen journalism. I am going throw out some for the Republican's who I saw as beening potentially vulerable.
I don't expect more than a few comments or a rec on any of these. I am just curious what is happening at your local level.
The first one that caught me was Rep. Dave Reichert found Washington. I know that he represents the Seattle area so I was suprised see him rise in oppostion.
I have never been to Seatle, I just know that they have gunge rock, big foot, everyone who lived there loved the Rainier Beer commericals, anyone who is from there is always discourging anyone from moving there and it rains 500 days out of the year.
I had always thought that this was a strong left wing area. So I was suprised to see Reichert repesenting King's county.
Okay, I know little about this guy. I he was something like a detective, or chief of police or Sherrif or something like that. I remember him as being the one who helped catch the Green River Killer. I do remember that it took the police a long time to arrest the Gren River Killer, something like 4 or 5 years, maybe shorter maybe longer. Reichert does not strike me as a bombthrowing right winger but, I have little knowledge.
So what does the local lay of the land look like?
Is there a strong opponent to him?
What is the past history of this district?
Is he as vulerable as it appears?
Is there anything that those of us from the outside can do to help?
Anyother insights pro or con would helpful.
