This probably doesn't rate as a diary but the situation is so amazingling unique that I felt I needed to share it with other kossacks here.
I had to call a co-worker about some bit of accounting business this morning. And, since I knew his political views I chose to remain mum about the passage of HCR and went on glowingly about the current status of my kitchen remodel (dry wall ceiling up!).
Just for a bit of background, this guy and I are pretty good friends, political leanings aside, and we get into some pretty lively discussions about the state of the country and such. There are times when we fully agree with each other-a lot of this because he's one of those right wing types who actually believes in the separation of church and state (which in and of itself strips away a lot of the controversies that gurgle and steam at the heart the cultural divide that separtate left from right).
Anyhow, to return to the story, after I told him how happy I was with the work on my home that went on over the weekend, he congratulated me.
"For what?" I replied.
"For getting healthcare passed."
You could have knocked me down with a feather. It seems these days that finding good sports is increasingly difficult and finding anything other than sore losers in the political arena is next to impossible. So to have a known rightie congratulating me on the passage of something of this magnitude, that he has argued against for the past year, was a really pleasant surprise. Maybe there is some hope afterall.
That said, a new ceiling in my kitchen, the passage of healthcare AND being congratulated on it by the opposition-not such a bad way to begin the week afterall.
