This will be a quick diary, but I just learned that TODAY at 1 pm EST the Washington Post is having John Yoo, the architect and enabler of the Bush torture regime, do a chat on their website.
Stand up and protest Yoo by going to the website and entering a comment and/or question.
I would recommend entering a comment and using that space to criticize Yoo for his criminal torture memos, and the Washington Post for giving him a platform in an attempt to rehabilitate his career.
More background on the flip.
As Dahlia Lithwick pointed out in a recent Slate article, we knew since at least WWII that waterboarding was torture.
John Yoo enabled waterboarding. He therefore is an accomplice and co-conspirator to torture that we know occurred (because Dick Cheney admits it and because of mountains of evidence), and violated Section 2340A of the federal criminal code. Section 2340A makes it an offense to torture or to conspire to torture. Violators are subject to jail terms or to death in appropriate cases.
John Yoo was recently given a pass in a whitewash of a legitimate investigation performed by the Department of Justice. A Deputy at DOJ, David Margolis, overruled an investigative committee that had found John Yoo guilty of several breaches of ethics rules and had recommended he be disbarred.
Margolis changed this recommendation and instead found that Yoo's legal reasoning fell below standards within the profession and that the "terror" of 9/11 justified his inhumane and criminal conduct!!
Outrageous yes. Now is your chance. The Washington Post should not be giving the torturer's accomplice and criminal John Yoo a platform in an attempt to rehabilitate his career.
So it is time for us to tell him what we think of his legal work and the torture of other human beings. Protest torture, protest Yoo, and protest his and Wapo's joint attempt to rehabilitate his career.
Go to the link above and enter your comments before 1 pm EST today. This is something you can do to protest torture. It doesn't get any easier. Please report back here in the comments with your submissions. And thanks for working to hold Yoo accountable for his despicable, inhumane and criminal conduct.
