Those on the right make a huge issue about gun rights. There is a lot of obsessing about how the left wants to take a away all guns and establish some sort dictatorship(solely to take way guns it seems)
The hypocrisy of this line of thinking from the right is astounding to say the least. They will fight to the death for gun rights, but most any other civil right is up for grabs.
Let me give you some info on me so I am not accused of being an anti-gun fanatic
I am a hunter. I am not a rabid hunter, but I hunt deer and game birds. I have 4 guns. 7mm-08 deer rifle, .22 semi auto rifle, 12 gauge pump hunting shotgun, and 12 gauge defense shotgun. There is no purpose of the defense shotgun other than to shoot it. It is just damn fun to shoot. It is never loaded and is locked up in the gun cabinet with the others.
Whenever I get s solicitation from the NRA I mail it back and ask them to remove me from their mailing list, because the lies they spout are offense of to me; as an American and as a gun owner. Each time I mail it back with something heavier and heavier. Next time I will have to go the post office to have it weighed. If they are going to send me a postage paid envelope I am going to use it to full advantage.
Back to the premise of the diary.
The far right obsesses about the rights we will lose if there is any regulation of guns. The make claims of constitutional issues. I do not want to get into the interpretations of the second amendment or original intent or any of that.
To hear them tell the second amendment is the only constitutional right that matters. The NRA, right-wingers and militia groups, and groups like the Oathkeepers make all sorts of protestations of protecting the constitution. Where were they when the congress and our previous President took away many of our rights? Patriot Act anyone.
Where are they when people like Jose Padilla has his constitutional rights taken away? (I am sure they are thinking that with a name like that he must be some sort of illegal alien.)
I amazed that of all the rights specifically spelled out in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, they trumpet the two that are the most open to interpretation.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Evidently they do not understand the establishment clause at all.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
They feel free to ignore the whole first part of this one.
But they are more than willing to ignore these completely.
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
No person shall be held to answer for any capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
Don't even get me started on the hypocrisy of their states rights rants.

OI overreacted to some comments. I apologize to any offended. I will blame it on wingnut derangement syndrome. I am used to debating with the wingnuts, not like minded people. It was an overreaction. I have no excuse. Please accept my apologies.
