Krystal Ball became the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party in VA-01 when Scott Robinson ended his bid yesterday afternoon.
Recent caucuses in Stafford, Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg delivered many delegates for Krystal and Scott's effort was seen as lagging. By withdrawing now, Scott has saved the Democrats a contentious nominating caucus on May 8, and enables Krystal to concentrate her fire and fund raising on November's election.
As for the Republicans, incumbent Rob Wittman is going to have a primary opponent, Catherine Crabill, who narrowly lost to Delegate Albert Pollard (VA-HD-99) last November. Ms. Crabill is going to mount a "teaparty"-type challenge to Mr. Wittman, an effort that should prove futile given that Wittman is a perfectly conventional GOP vote who doesn't embarrass himself or his district.
VA-01 is basically a "red" 58-42 district and probably doesn't rate as even a 3rd-tier race in the DCCC's estimation, so any help Krystal can get from the concerned citizenry would be great! I think she would be a wonderful asset to Virginia's Congressional delegation.
