Under fire from the right for not being tough enough on immigration in his Senate primary race, John McCain (R-AZ) has called on Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to dispatch National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Now this is the same John McCain that had to have Sarah Palin come to Arizona a few days ago to help him with his primary. Just maybe this is not "political"-since he was all for immigration in 2005 when he co- sponsored a bill with Sen. Edward Kennedy.
>Immigration Measure Introduced
The new visa program proposed by Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) would allow immigrant workers to leave and enter the United States as they please over the three-year life of the temporary visa.
McCain said he supported sending troops to the border in the past and
the request was rejected and is asking Janet Napolitano to reconsider
sending National Guard troops to our southern border area.
The people of Arizona and the United States demand and deserve secure borders," he writes. "I hope that you will take a personal interest in ensuring that Arizonans can feel safe and protected on their own property and not live in fear of the increasing violence along the border."
Here is the letter To Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano:
