I know a lot of folks here are celebrating catching Sean Hannity urging Tea Partiers to be like Tim McVeigh, but, that's not what this is.
And I suspect a good many here know it.
Obviously, Hannity has absolutely zero to gain from celebrating the destruction wrought by Tim McVeigh. Hannity would be pilloried by leaders from left and right if, indeed, that's what he was doing.
But Hannity would benefit by currying favor with the Tea Party contingent. What he was doing, clearly, was using the phrase "Timothy McVeigh wannabes" as a description of what he claims the left calls the Tea Partiers (though I haven't heard anyone in any position of power or influence say that).
This was Hannity kissing up: "And the loony left calls you good, patriotic Americans 'Timothy McVeigh wannabes!'"
This is a ginned up controversy and, frankly, it's stupid. It's what the assholes on the other side constantly do. Ultimately, it just takes the air out of the next real opportunity we have to pound these fucks into the ground. So in that sense,it hurts us more than it helps us.
So grow up, people. Even the ever-ignorant Sean Hannity isn't stupid enough to celebrate Tim McVeigh.
Glenn Beck, maybe. But Sean Hannity, no.
Update [2010-4-1 21:23:45 by Bob Johnson]:
See Scarce's transcript, below:
Hannity is claiming the Democrats call the Tea Partiers "Tim McVeigh wannabes."
HANNITY: But — I never understood this from the beginning. But why would the Democratic Party specifically target the Tea Party movement? Tim McVeigh wannabes, un-American?
I mean what's more quintessentially American than saying kill the bill, exercising your First Amendment rights, limited government, lower taxes, speaking out against socialism? What's so bad about this?
Yet look at the OUTRAGE, OUTRAGE, I TELL YOU, in that top-rated diary.
It's just stupid. Sorry. We should save our outrage for, you know, actual outrages...
