Over the last few weeks, I've been getting more and more anxious. The last 6 months of running and preparing for my first marathon (Nashville Rock & Roll Marathon, April 24, 2010) have gotten me to this point and it's only a matter of time before I get out there and knock out one of my "bucket list" items.
I always thought it would be interesting to train for a marathon. My brother's cancer diagnosis and recovery journey really kept me going. (See more on that story here.) I started running with Team In Training to help cope with my own issues surrounding my brother's illness and raise awareness (and money) for a cause that hit very close to home.
Well, it's been an exciting journey, but today is the day I am REALLY excited about all of this.
Race day is exactly two weeks away. But even more exciting than that is this:
I now have my race day jersey. Cool, huh?
Yeah, it's a shirt, but it's a shirt that's been earned through (a little) blood, (a ton of) sweat, and (yes, even a few) tears. I can't tell you how amazing a journey it has been. It's something everyone should do themselves. You might not believe you can do it, but it is amazing what happens when you put your mind to something.
I can't wait to run Nashville and see the sights, but I really can't wait to prove to I can do it.
Wish me luck!
PS. If you'd like to help, but running insanely long distances isn't your thing, consider donating a bit to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. Every dollar gets us one step closer to finding a cure for blood cancer. I love this community and have been reading through (lurking) for years. I've seen the power of numbers. Hopefully they can help me out with this. :-)
