My dad points up to Fox news on the TV and says look there’s another example of those Democrats grabbing power and expanding government. They want to take the word "navigable" out of that water bill so they can have control over all the water in the country not just waterways that boats can ride on. Read the constitution. Government is for protecting the people and that’s it. Not controlling every part of our lives. They’re gonna’ take away our water rights and tax every sip we drink. Dad, I really can’t respond until I look into it. I’m not up on this legislation. I’ll get back to you.
Dad, I took about 15 minutes and typed a few key words into that liberal conspiracy machine called the internet and found about five different sources talking about this legislation. Yes, the National Association of Counties didn’t like this change because it could mean more red tape, additional fees and possible denial of requests for projects that affect inland bodies of water and wetlands. And nobody likes somebody new poking their nose into their business. But I also found your favorite organization that you contribute to, "Ducks Unlimited" had testified before congress asking them to strengthen the clean water act. It appears that many inland bodies of water and wetlands fall into a gray area and are not subject to the clean water act that keeps them from being polluted or from going away due to development. And it also appears that states and counties are not picking up where the clean water act leaves off and these bodies of water are disappearing at an alarming pace. It’s getting Federal attention because water from one state can affect another state not just in ground water and runoff but in the flight patterns of migratory birds. So if the ducks that fly over your state to go to another state’s wetlands no longer have those wetlands to go to, well you get the picture. Your duck hunting days could be numbered. So removing the word "navigable" IS protecting the people.
Like I keep saying Dad, I don’t label myself as anything. I’m not a conservative or a liberal, I just consider myself a smart well informed person. I look at many different sources for my news and current events before I come to any conclusions as to what I will believe to be the truth. And when I compare all the different sources I see, Fox has the least amount of journalistic integrity. Fox is only going to give you information that supports (as comedian John Stewart coined) their pre defined narrative. They really don’t care about finding the truth. They only care about presenting bits of information that supports the truth that they want you to believe. It’s the definition of propaganda. It’s keeping the truth from the people. It flies against the ideals of our country and its democracy. Fox news is not your friend. Fox doesn’t care if all the ducks, geese and other migratory birds go away. Fox only cares about making sure that you keep watching their programming and advertising from their sponsors.
